How do I add Hotjar to my Website?

Hotjar is a powerful all-in-one analytics and feedback tool that helps website owners and online businesses understand their users' behavior and optimize their website for better user experience. With Hotjar, website owners can track user behavior such as clicks, taps, and scrolling on their website, and also gain insights into how users interact with forms and surveys. Additionally, Hotjar offers features such as heatmaps, session recordings, and feedback polls that can help website owners identify and address any issues or pain points their users may be experiencing. Hotjar offers a variety of pricing plans to suit businesses of all sizes, including a free plan with limited features.

Sign up for Hotjar

  1. Go to the Hotjar website at
  2. Click on the "Sign up for Free" button in the top right corner of the page.
  3. Fill out the registration form with your name, email address, and a password.
  4. Check the box to agree to Hotjar's terms of service and privacy policy.
  5. Click on the "Create Account" button.
  6. Verify your email address by clicking on the link sent to your email inbox.
  7. Once you've verified your email address, you'll be taken to your Hotjar dashboard where you can start setting up your account and exploring the different features and tools Hotjar offers.

Add Your Website to your Hotjar Account

  1. In the Hotjar dashboard, click on the "New Site" button in the top right corner of the page.
  2. Enter your website's URL in the field provided, then click on the "Add Site" button.
  3. Select Install the tracking code manually on your website (View the steps below to install the code on your website).
  4. Once the tracking code is installed on your website, go back to the Hotjar dashboard and click on the "Verify Installation" button to confirm that the tracking code is working properly.

Add Hotjar Code to Your EVO website

  1. Open a new browser tab, and log into your website's EVO Manager.
  2. Go to Elements > Chunks. Click on New Chunk at the top.
  3. Give the Chunk a name, with no spaces (*You will need to use the exact name when pasting the name into the page templates in a moment). Example: HotJar.
  4. Go back to the Hotjar tab, and copy the entire tracking code.
  5. Go back to your EVO tab, and paste the entire tracking code into the "Chunk Code (html) field". Then save and close the EVO page.
  6. Within the lower tabs, (under Manage Elements), go to Chunks > Template Top.
  7. Look at the left-most side of the field of code. Find the </head> tag. Click to the left of it, then hit return, and type {{your chunk name here}}. For Example: {{HotJar}}. Click Save and close.
